Topic: Saurian text BUR

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #7894 is pending approval.

remove implication saurian_text (0) -> character_cipher (398)

---

See next BUR, below. This first one is just to remove a conflicting relationship.

---

Reason: It's been established that "Saurian" is an overused and underspecified species term. Five years ago, topic #24134 resulted in Saurian being aliased to Saurian (disambiguation) and moved to the Invalid category.

Following a brief discussion in topic #44060, I am proposing this BUR to disambiguate the multiple languages whose scripts could be referred to as "Saurian text" -- principally, Dino Language from Star Fox and Saurian from Warhammer fantasy, both of which are character ciphers. But if you know of any others, please let me know and I'll add them in!

I have elected to use the tag dino_text_(star_fox) for the language which is otherwise sometimes referred to as Saurian, because it is agreed that "Saurian" is an unofficial term for the language coined by fans.

EDIT, 2 May:
After discussion, I have updated these tags to put the franchise name at the end of the tag rather than preceding the word "text".

create alias saurian_text (0) -> saurian_text_(disambiguation) (0) # has blocking transitive relationships, cannot be applied through bur

You need to remove the character_cipher implication first before aliasing the tag. The alias needs to be made in a separate BUR.

The bulk update request #7895 is pending approval.

create alias saurian_text (0) -> saurian_text_(disambiguation) (0) # has blocking transitive relationships, cannot be applied through BUR
create alias dino_text (0) -> dino_text_(disambiguation) (0)
change category saurian_text_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid
change category dino_text_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid
change category saurian_text_(warhammer) (0) -> meta
create implication saurian_text_(warhammer) (0) -> character_cipher (398)
create implication saurian_text_(warhammer) (0) -> fictional_language (378)
change category dino_text_(star_fox) (10) -> meta
create alias saurian_text_(star_fox) (0) -> dino_text_(star_fox) (10)
create implication dino_text_(star_fox) (10) -> character_cipher (398)
create implication dino_text_(star_fox) (10) -> fictional_language (378)

Reason: Follow-up from previous BUR. See reason, above.

Thanks! I have split it into two BURs so the first can be applied, then the second.

I don't like putting the disambiguating "suffix" in the middle of the tag name like that, especially dino_(star_fox)_text. Naming them saurian_text_(warhammer) and dino_text_(star_fox) is better, IMO.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I would want to see if there's a consensus that that's better. After all, all other language tags shown on the text wiki page follow a *_text naming convention without parenthetical attribution on the end. So there doesn't seem to be any established norm here.

Yeah I do not like the suffix (infix?) in the middle of the tag name either, feels slightly awkward. There's also the problem of needing to type out the bracket before the autocomplete result shows up

When searching dino_text, dino (star fox) text doesn't even pop up

Consider me convinced! I've updated the BUR to place each parenthetical franchise attribution at the end.

create alias saurian_text_(star_fox) (0) -> dino_(star_fox)_text (10)

This still points to the wrong destination

Oop, good catch. Now the BUR has been fully updated to incorporate the suggested change.
